Summary: Legend Slime doesn’t classify itself as a tower defense, but it operates like a tower defense game. With nostalgic graphics, even-more nostalgic music, and simple mechanics, Legends Slime is an idle tower defense game that has many features to keep the casual-gamer interested.
The Objective: You are a slime that is going against an endless horde of humans. Rounds are very fast and become increasingly difficult as time goes on. Your goal is to get enough gold, spend that gold on your slime’s stats, and become stronger so you can beat the levels. Levels are endless, as are most idle TD games.
Legends Slime offers more features than just self-upgrading: What makes this game interesting is the other features in the game as well. Not only can you upgrade your stats, but you can also obtain skills, companions, equipment, and even other slime characters.
Upgrading your own Slime: Upgrading your slime is probably the most boring part of the game, and it’s something that I wished the creators expanded more. When defeating a human, you will get gold and can use it to upgrade your stats: ATK (your base damage), HP (health), HP Recovery (how much HP you regenerate), ASPD (attack speed). Eventually, you will also unlock Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, Double shot (the chance to shoot two bullets at once), and Triple shot (the chance to shoot three bullets at once). While very important in the beginning, your slime’s base stats become less and less important, and your skills, companions, and gear become the star of the show.
Skills: Each skill provides a basic stat increase (attack %), along with a type of spell. Some spells attack more than once, and others are one HUGE attack that can wipe down difficult enemies easily. Skills can be obtained by summoning them with gems (more about gems later). As you achieve higher levels, you unlock more skills slots, with a maximum of six skills in your arsenal.
Companions: Like skills, you also use gems to summon companions. Companions provide a base stat (attack %), plus have their own attack and attack speed. Once you achieve higher levels, you unlock more slots to have companions by your side, up to five companions.
Gear: Like skills and companions, you can also summon gear. You get an attack gear, and a defense gear, and you summon gear using gems. Attack gear provides “owned effect ATK %” (by simply having the weapon in your inventory), and “equipped effect ATK %” (ATK % increase when equipping). Defense gear provides “owned effect HP%”, and “equipped effect HP%”.
Rings: While rings are part of your gear, it gets its own section because rings are obtained in a much different way. In order to get a ring, you must complete “Slime Legion” – a mini game where you can get a ring with different special stats.
Dungeons: There five different types of dungeons that any player can participate in once they achieve the required level: Boss Rush (for gems), Gold Rush (for gold), Village Raid (for forks), Dwarven King (for summoned gear), and Slime Legion (for rings). You get two tries of each dungeon every day, along with two more keys for each dungeon after watching a short advertisement.
I could go on for a lot longer, but just trust me that there are many features to this game as well.
The Breakdown
Graphics: 7/10
I really love the nostalgic illustrations this game has. It reminds me of the old RPG games that I would play on my handheld devices when I was younger. The graphics are smooth and unique. The only critique that I would say is that the graphics of the sprites could be a little more… special. There are hardly any notable differences between the different types of slimes, enemies, etc. Every sprite seems rehashed with a miniscule change here-and-there. Otherwise, everything functions well and looks neat.
Easiness of Play: 9/10
The game is incredibly easy to play and will infinitely idle. All you have to do, really, is upgrade your slimes, participate in other events, and your slime will do all the work for you. Even if you die, your slime will repeat the same level over and over again until you can get enough gold/upgrades to fight the boss again. This is the kind of game that will become too boring if you don’t have something to do on the side. It is definitely a game for those busy-bodies that like to multi-task and stay entertained.
Replayability: 8/10
The great thing about Slime Legend is that there are new-day bonuses: rewards that you can get that refresh on a daily basis. These are exciting enough and incentivize players to come back to playing the game every day. My critique is that after you get to end-game levels and everything is unlocked, the game gets boring very fast. There is no end-game content for players that have invested their time. All that there is to do at the end game is unlock skills, equipment, companions, gear, and rings. I wish there were more activities to do.
Fun Factor: 7/10
Because increasing in levels becomes less and less exciting, the excitement stems from using your gems to unlock equipment. It’s as exciting as playing a roulette machine or a gatcha game, which can be quite amusing for those that love the gambling experience. Game-wise, there are many activities to do, which can keep a person entertained for about 30 minutes-1 hour, before all the “dailies” are completed and you’ll have to come back the next day. The game is fun for the first week, then becomes more of a maintenance farm afterward.
Is this a Passive or Active Game? This game is horrifically passive. I have left this game on while in my pocket. If I’m unable to keep my phone on (this game does drain the hell out of your battery), then I can come back to some idle rewards and get a portion of the gold that I would have earned if I left my phone on. This game is the true definition of an idle game. You can play and get stronger even when you’re not playing.
How Ad Heavy? They are moderately heavy, but for a cheap fee, you can get rid of all the ads and get the rewards that you would have earned by watching ads, simply by pressing the ad button. Otherwise, all the ads have a function to them and the game does not randomly show you ads. When you watch an ad, depending on what is presented, you can get gems, be able to fight 2x faster, get coins, get more keys, etc. I recommended spending a little to get rid of the ads since the 30 seconds per ad does build up, but it’s definitely not required to be good at the game.
I also want to note: the game is VERY generous with its premium currency: Purple gems are the premium currency in the game. It allows you to play the gatcha system and try to unlock skills, companions, and gear. On a daily basis, you can unlock 10,000+ purple gems from participating in daily tasks. It costs only 1500 gems to summon 35 skills, companions, and gear, so you can summon hundreds of stuff on a daily basis.
