Harvesting is a stat in Brotato you can upgrade. Every round, you get a set amount of bonus resources that you can use to reroll shop, reroll stats, and purchase items. In addition, you get the same amount of bonus EXP. The higher the Harvesting stat, the more resources and EXP you get at the end of each round.
For example, if your Harvesting is at level 20, every wave you will get 20 bonus resources and 20 bonus EXP, on top of the resources/EXP you collected during that wave.
The Harvesting Playstyle Explained: Why upgrade it?
Harvesting is an extremely effective stat for players that choose passive characters, or characters that benefit from increasing harvesting.
For example, the Pacifist is a character in Brotato that benefits from not killing enemies. This character would benefit immensely from increasing Harvesting.
How can I survive as a Passive, Harvesting-focused character?
If you choose the passive play style, your focus will be to make as much passive money as possible, and to invest in much survivability as possible. You will want to invest in any of the following stats:
- Harvesting *PRIORITY*
- Luck (improves the rarity of items found in the shop. Optimal is 60-75)
- Speed (fast enough to dodge, but not too fast that you start running into things. This is personal preference, but I like mine to be maxed out at 20)
You will also need to balance our your defenses with the following stats:
- Armor (as much as you can)
- HP Regen (as much as you can)
- Dodge (only until 60%, unless you are using a character with increase Dodge % cap. Either way, try to max it out)
- Max HP
I highly recommend around Wave 6-7, start investing in Armor, Dodge, and Max HP, so you can survive the harder monsters.
No matter how tempting the roll, avoid all damage stats at all costs!
What if I’m a damage-dealer. Is it worth it to increase Harvesting?
Not really. It’s better to focus on damage-dealing. Don’t fall into the trap of not having a focused playstyle!
How do I increase Harvesting?
You can increase your Harvesting level by upgrading the stat when you level up. This stat can also be increased by items.
Your Harvesting also increases by 5% every wave until Wave 20. After Wave 20, your Harvesting decreases by 20%. Harvesting can keep decreases past zero and go into negative numbers.
What happens if I have negative Harvesting?
If you have negative Harvesting, instead of gaining bonus resources at the end of the wave, you will start to lose resources.
For example, if you collected 400 resources at the end of the wave and you have Harvesting -50, you will get 350 resources at the end of the wave instead.
This loss also applies for EXP. However, you cannot lose levels from this.
Does my Harvesting still increase by 5% if I have negative Harvesting / zero harvesting?
No, your Harvesting does not increase if your Harvesting is negative or zero.
If you want to make the most of the stat, it is important you try not to obtain items that would decrease your Harvesting into the negatives. The +5% increase of both resources and EXP passive gain is very useful.
What is the Resource Bag that collects all my leftover resources at the end of the Wave? Does it have anything to do with Harvesting?
To put it frankly, the resource bag has nothing to do with Harvesting, but it’s easy to make this association. Regardless, let me explain what it does.
There is resource bag icon at the top of the player’s screen next to your resources icon. Whatever leftover resources you did not pick up, it will go into this resource bag. For the next wave, you can pick up double the amount of resources for the amount in that bag (x2). After that, the amount of resources you pick up goes back to the default (x1).
For example, let’s say you just finished Wave 10, and you were not able to pick up 20 resources. These 20 resources get sucked into this bag at the end of the wave. On Wave 11, you can double the amount of resources for the next 20 resources. This is the game’s attempt at making use of the resources you were not able to pick up.
So if you don’t manage to pick up all the resources, don’t worry! You may be able to make up for it in the next wave. It does not get lost and just rolls onto the next wave.
Is it worth it to increase Harvesting in Endless Mode?
Unfortunately, no. Harvesting decreases by a massive amount after level 20 (8% every wave). Unless you’re lucky enough to compile a bunch of Harvesting-increasing items, it’s not worth it on endless.
Final Thoughts
Harvesting is a great investment if you are playing a passive mode. It’s one of the key ways passive players gain resources, especially on characters whose sole purpose is to survive.
